Three years ago, at the age of 43, I received some news that completely turned my life upside down. I was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease, a condition that, at present, has no known cure.
Quite by accident, I discovered that when I used my spare time to take photographs, draw, paint and make music, something incredible was happening… my shaking stopped, I was no longer struggling with muscle stiffness and, most importantly, I didn’t feel suicidal anymore.
Astounded by this, I researched creativity as a treatment for Parkinson’s disease and discovered it’s a pretty well-documented form of therapy. In that moment, I knew that I wanted to use my 20 years of creative experience to share my work and hopefully provide solace to those suffering from P.D, depression or anxiety.
As Parkinson’s is degenerative, I haven’t wasted a moment - I have scrimped and saved to buy creative equipment and hope soon to quit my 9-5 so I can focus on what makes me feel happy and healthy while my brain and body will let me. If I can prevent even 1 suicide or simply make someone feel happier through my work, I’ll die happy.
Time is precious, and I can’t do this without your support. Take a look at my work, and help me to keep sharing it for free by becoming a patron.
